Hi and welcome to the project news pages. Its here we will be sharing our news and progress so please keep visiting for regular updates!
UPDATE 2017 - we have been through a period of change in recent months and have lost a director and gained a new one!! Watson (one of our directors) decided that it was time to move on to pastures new in early 2017 and left a huge gap in the Project, he has been sadly missed by both staff and guests but everyone wishes him well in his future endeavours. And so we then gained a new director, who was initially a volunteer! Welcome to Michelle.. who not only became a director in 2017 but also became a Mrs!!!
Michelle is also taking on the role of fundraising director and has to date secured several pots of funding from various places. She is also the storeroom queen at the hub and has transformed the space into a much more user friendly room in order to give items out to our guests on Mondays and Tuesdays each week.
we have also welcomed new volunteers and lost a few others along the way !!! But thats the nature of the work we do so we embrace change as it brings about great things!
We continue in our quest to recruit volunteers so that we can carry on with the work we do. Our guests keep visiting us and while there is a need for people to have a safe space to pop into we will continue to open the doors.
UPDATE JUNE 2016 - We are going from strength to strength here and are enjoying support from lots of different people and groups.
In April 2016 we recieved £1000 from the Police and Crime Commisioner which was amazing and has allowed us to purchase items for the hub as well as keep on top of the rent.
We have also recieved £500 from the local UNISON group due to the amazing efforts of one of our volunteers Heather White, who works tirelessly for the project.
We have joined Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS and are able to access volunteers and training with them which is a massive support to us.
Blackburn Princes Trust offered to come and do some work on the hub and they painted it from top top bottom as well as supplied new furniture and household items that make it so homely here none of us want to leave at the end of the day!
A local CIC Rummage Rescuers continue to work closley with us and donate items when we are in need which is amazing.
And we have links with the Blackburn ASDA branch, and their community champion Bharat who turns up with various items for the project. We were part of the green coin campaign recently and are waiting to hear if we have been successful!!
2015 - the contract for out new place will be signed this week and so we will begin the move from the storehouse at The Vineyard Church in Blackburn who have been so generous in allowing us to use their crèche room to store items over the last few months.....we cannot express our gratitude to Dave Podmore and his church for all of their support in the project.
Emma and Katie will be famous for five mins this week as they are interviewed on Chorley FM and The Bee radio stations regarding the project and our mate Dan Clough from the Lancashire evening Telegraph has yet again written a great piece about us for this weeks paper......
Emma is visiting Blackburn University Centre this week to talk to students about the project, the impact of homelessness and poor housing on the local community and how they can help!! Nervous but proud to be able to promote the project in this way - Emma is going into two local schools later this year to talk with them about similar issues so keep a look out for that!!!
A venue for the music fundraiser event we hope to be holding later this year is being checked out on Thursday - we already have some amazing musicians from London, Lancaster and of course Blackburn who have signed up to help out- so again keep a look out for that event!!!!
The details of the big sleep out in June can be found on the events page of the website so have a peek and see if you can help out.....we have a local tv and film celeb joining us for that!!!!
